Okay so plenty to tell about the Spike Awards.
1. World premier look at the new double horror feature by Quentin Tarantino and Robert Rodriguez, a zombie movie by Rodriguez and slasher by Quentin, called Grind House billed for release 6 April 2007. These two also shared the Mastermind Award
2. My stomach is still churning from the never before seen trailer for Saw III
3. Horror movie of the year goes to the Devil's Rejects the sequel to House of 1000 Corpses both written and directed by Rob Zombie, this one also picked up the award for Vilest Villains, one of which is played by Sid Haig who has 99 film and television credits to his name on IMDB including Little Big Top, Jackie Brown and Dead Calling. Quentin Tarantino spent most of his acceptance speech saying how cool an awards ceremony that honours the achievements of Sid Haig as an actor is, I concur.
4. The first standing ovation did not go to Frank Miller or William Shatner but to the announcer of the last award, Marilyn Manson, who had the entire audience on their feet celebs and fans, despite looking decidedly normal for his standards. The second and last standing ovation was for the recipient of the award Manson presented, Ozzy Osbourne - Immortal Rock Icon award or something like that. Ozzy ended his acceptance speech with, "God bless all of you." And he still retains the title of Dark Lord as bestowed upon him by Marilyn Manson. For Manson fans he announced he'll start work on a new album.
5. Sexiest Superhero was a let down, going to Jessica Alba for her role in The Fantastic Four. Don't get me wrong she's sexy in Dark Angel & Sin City, but Mrs Invisible is not as sexy as Famke Jansen as the Phoenix in X-Men The Last Stand IMHO.
6. I got to go out and get me the comic book that won Best Comic Book and also Best Comic Book Artist Marvel Zombies by Rober Kirkman and published by Marvel Comics. Spiderman, Wolverine, Cyclops, Captain America etc. as zombies sounds like a riot!
7. It was also nice to see Linda Blair, who plays Regan in the original The Exorcist co-present an award with Breakout Performance Award winner Jennifer Carpenter, Emily Rose in The Excorcism of Emily Rose
We need more quality award shows like this for sure!
